Pope John Paul Visit
Past Events
Calgary, Alberta
In 1984 Polanie participated in the festivities welcoming Pope John Paul II to Alberta. Pope John Paul II holds immense significance for Polish people because he became a global symbol of hope, dignity, and national pride during a time when Poland was under communist rule. His visits to Poland in 1979 and the years that followed helped inspire the Solidarity movement, giving people the courage to push for freedom and human rights. For many Poles, he remains a spiritual father whose legacy continues to shape their cultural identity and sense of unity.
50 Years of Culture
Since our inception in 1977, Polanie's focus has remained steadfast on the development of our dancers, their Polish community, and the proud pursuit of dance excellence in Canada.
